Tracking Progress

The Partnership tracks progress toward near-term and long-term goals. Read our report Marking Milestones: Progress in Conserving Land in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed (2019). This report showcases the tremendous value of our Chesapeake watershed, and the remarkable success stories of people working to protect the land that supports our quality of life. It also points out the significant financial investments necessary for conserving the lands upon which we all depend — and the return on investment we derive from them. We also provide detailed information on the status of land protection funding programs in the region — the first survey of its kind in a decade. The report also calls for a renewed urgency in our shared conservation work.

The National Park Service and the U.S. Geological Survey, both Partnership members, provide staff support for tracking progress on near-term goals established under the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement:

Land Protection

The U.S. Geological Survey, in collaboration with the National Park Service and other partnership members, prepares regular updates to a comprehensive protected lands geospatial dataset for the Chesapeake Watershed. This is used to gauge progress toward the 2025 land protection goal. For the latest information see:

Public Access

The National Park Service, in collaboration with state partners and a public access working group, prepares annual updates to a comprehensive dataset of public access sites for the watershed. This is used to gauge progress toward the 2025 public access goal. For the latest information see:
