2023 Annual Meeting Maps

Small areas of conserved land can be very important for communities, human health and heritage.  However, partners working on large landscapes know It is often easier to protect one large parcel of land than several small to get to the same acreage.  Therefore, these maps show what are the largest parcels of land in the watershed that according to 2022 Chesapeake Bay Program data are not protected.  These maps are intended to help partners visually see where in the landscape there are large areas of unprotected land in order to help communities on the ground strategize and plan landscape scale conservation efforts.

The maps below are intended to help partners visually see where in the landscape there are large areas of unprotected land in order to help communities on the ground strategize and plan landscape scale conservation efforts.  The maps show unprotected lands as well as areas already protected to help illuminate opportunities for conservation. Two watershed wide maps also show unprotected parcels vulnerable to growth as well as large unprotected parcels within disadvantaged census tracts.

These maps were created with protected lands data and growth data from the Chesapeake Bay Program, available parcel data from each state, and disadvantaged areas from the Council on Environmental Quality.
